Emergetrends stopped by the 4th annual New York stop of the ~Scope Art Fair on Manhattan's West Side yesterday. A young art fair dedicated to connecting new artists and small galleries to a new generation of art collectors and potential patrons, Scope's chaotic, noisy, labyrinthine exhibition hall could hardly be mistaken for the high-tone Armory Show or the controversial Whitney Biennial but there was much to see (and hear) over the fair's four days. While the biggest names at the fair were likely Shepard Fairey and James Marshall a/k/a Dalek, there was a great deal of compelling work spanning media from works on paper to prints, photography, sculpture, video, interactive and performance art.
Scope's program included a silent auction, and an extensive range of screenings and displays of technologically-minded art created in partnership with New Museum of Contemporary Art, Rhizome.org, Free 103point9, and Perpetual Art Machine.
