The haughtily named Music Genome Project has created a really cool web application called Pandora which can, based on the user's entry of a song title or artist, build a webradio station based on a complicated analysis of that song or artist's "genome." Within seconds, Pandora will give the user a vast array of similar music to explore and engage with.
To test it out, I entered Fugazi and Pandora quickly recommended songs by Spoon, Nine Black Alps, Caesars, Tad and several others. By no means a perfect "recommended if you like" playlist, Pandora makes for a pretty fascinating time waster and for a casual listener it might just turn up some new favorites.
