Apple Scares Hackers Away With Poetry

Even the computer nerds at Apple realized that sooner or later hackers would try and mess with their precious OS. So they hid a little poetic warning inside the code which urges would-be thieves to "Please don't steal Mac OS!/Really, that's way uncool"

Sure this is a little funny wink to those few users sophisticated to get down into the OS code but I think it speaks to a broader impulse to embed some little piece of personality within these faceless and ubiquitous articles of culture. Like a high-tech counterpart to the coveted hoodies made by NYC-hipsters The Cast, which conceal a luxe silk lining within that proletarian staple, the zip-up sweatshirt.

In an increasingly homogenous world, it's little "easter eggs" like these that allow brands to create meaningful relationships with their core customers that transcend the simple financial exchange which takes place at retail.
