The Chowdown

EMERGE loves a good dance party and EMERGE loves a good meal. They are two of our favorites in fact. So when we got invited to not just attend but DJ the most recent Chowdown we jumped at the opportunity.

Helmed by resident DJ Joe Encarnacion and hostess Anna Balkrishna, who has cut her teeth as journalist for EMERGE-approved rags including XLR8R, the Chowdown is part party, part supperclub, a podcast and soon, it will be an online radio show. Having just wrapped their tenth iteration and their second at NYC's APT nightclub, the Chowdown folks have plans to add a broadcast via Brooklyn Radio to the already bumping podcast series, which features sets from the likes of neo-disco DJ Brennan Green, SF radio djs Moxie Musik, house wunderkind Justin Martin and many more.

Last night's edition, which paired the stellar cuisine of Ratha Chau of New York's Kampuchea restaurant with a set of "dirty NYC electro" was pretty amazing, featuring 3+ hours of live DJing with a 5 course meal exploring creative interpretations of Cambodian street food such as baby back ribs, noodles, rice crepes and even a silken tofu cheesecake with fresh berries.

Be sure to check out the Chowdown's website for updates on future editions and subscribe to their podcast here
