In the mean time, here are a few things on our short list:
1. The Psychic Soviet:
Once written up as the Sassiest Boy, indie rock icon Ian Svenonius of seminal bands like Nation Of Ulysses, The Make Up, and Weird War has been enjoying something of a comeback recently. He's hosted a pretty amazing series of shows called Soft Focus on VBS.TV and he even published a book that humorously marries the often contradictory subjects of policits and rock n roll. EMERGE can't wait to find time to read The Psychic Soviet.
2. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan:
Probably the last blogger on earth to not see this movie despite doing a damn good impersonation of Sasha Baron Cohen's bumbling journalist, EMERGE can't wait to buy a copy of the DVD which we'll have to watch alone and never mention to anyone at all since the entire world has already worn all the humor out of this instant classic since it was released in theaters late last year.
3. The Salt Lick:
A legend amongst barbecue fanatics, Driftwood, Texas' The Salt Lick is the kind of rootsy "only in Texas" place that locals and visitors in the know go on and on about during SXSW. Heading down for our third straight year, EMERGE is absolutely adamant that we'll make time for the approximately 20 mile drive to enjoy some truly enormous servings of various smoked meats served with sides like potato salad, coleslaw, beans, pickles, bread and of course their secret recipe bbq sauce.
4. Daft Punk's Summer Tour:
The fine folks at Pitchfork continue to scoop everyone, announcing today that Parisian dance superstars Daft Punk are embarking on their first tour of North America since god-knows-when. Tour stops include Berkeley's Greek Theater, Seattle's WAMU Center, and New York's Keyspan Park. This, in other words, is a proper full-on arena tour and will feature three of EMERGE's favorite folks opening including SebastiAn, Kavinsky and The Rapture. Good times!!!
5. PAM Classiatical Tee Shirt
Perks and MINI is one of EMERGE's favorite clothing designers. And we love that they also make music with their band The Changes, publish lots of cool books by other folks we really like, including photographer Peter Sutherland, put on art shows in their Melbourne shop, and even came out with a limited furry toy with Medicom that says stupid stuff like "stop playing with your genitals and play with me!!!" Best of all, they make this killer shirt that we really need to order. You should too. Cop one at Hanon-Shop.
