Full disclosure, EMERGE used to be a staff writer and the hip-hop reviews editor for XLR8R. So biased as we undoubtedly are, it was exciting news indeed to learn that America's foremost magazine of cutting edge music, art and culture had partnered with the formidable Revision3 broadband tv network (founded by Digg! bigwigs Jay Adelson and Kevin Rose) to create XLR8R TV, which brings the SF-based periodical off the racks and presents its irreverent yet respectful, indepth yet engaging coverage of electronic music, the indie scene and underground art, design and lifestyle to life in roughly 15 minute-long episodes.
The production values are somewhere between the polished user-created content of Current TV and the completely homespun stuff on YouTube, and the show benefits from XLR8R's 14 years at the forefront of emergent culture. What the web-based broadcast may lack in visual slickness, it makes up and thensome with attitude and editorial adventurousness. They have a big network from which to draw stories and contacts and while the pilot episode is the only one online at the moment, here's hoping there is much more fun and interesting programming to come.
Congrats XLR8R
