Secrets of the Model Dorm

Please excuse the grotesque self-promotion here but it's not everyday that EMERGE's James Friedman makes a cameo in a chick-lit book about the lifestyles of up-and-coming models. But indeed, that is exactly what happened a couple weeks ago when Secrets Of the Model Dorm by Amanda Kerlin and Phil Oh was published by Atria Books.

A breezy bit of beach reading, Secrets is sort of like a snarkier, edgier Devil Wears Prada, exposing how decidedly unglamorous the modeling world can be. Except there is a lot more cocaine, vodka, backseat blowjobs and other unsavory behavior in Secrets. Oh, and we make a cameo DJing a fashion week afterparty at the Tribeca Grand Hotel alongside The Rapture and Justine D.

To celebrate the book's launch, the authors held a press party yesterday evening (at the Tribeca Grand no less) and while there was no budget for having The Rapture play live, and Justine D must have had another engagement, we did a spot of DJing alongside the stellar Prince Language while a gaggle of friends, literary types, and an insane coterie of press folks from outlets like Page 6, Seventeen, and The Fader guzzled all the free champagne and some lacky from the publisher hawked hardcover editions in the back of the room.

Good times for the kind of book that will undoubtedly become a cherished guilty pleasure for anybody curious to know how far from reality programs like America's Next Top Model truly are.
