No, we don't mean the slightly nerdy and technologically intense hacking, but the lo-tech, subversive repurposing of technology hacking.
Abstractor is a nifty bit of Culture Jamming devised by artist Ji Lee, best know for his Bubble Project which disrupts print and online advertisement with empty speech bubbles to be filled with whatever commentary the user chooses.
Abstractor essentially uses black board and tape to turn a video billboard monitor into a small horizontal bar of video art, transforming "intrusive" advertising into something completely abstract and aesthetically fascinating.
The irony here is that Lee has done extensive work as an art director and designer within the advertising world. I guess Ralph Waldo Emerson was right when he said "a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of narrow minds."
