To describe UVA as an interdisciplinary collective combining production design, software engineering and art direction doesn't do the London-based group justice. While their work is indeed mind-bogglingly technological in nature, such a description fails to capture just how arrestingly beautiful the products of such interdisciplinary work are.
A sampling includes music videos for the criminally underrated Colder from Paris to tour visuals for Massive Attack and U2, visuals for fashion shows including 2005's Fashion Rocks! featuring Prada and The Kills, as well as numerous installations in art spaces and events including OneDotZero at the ICA, Kemistry Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Tate Modern.
UVA is not your average company obviously and their ability to makes such visually spellbinding work using projections, lighting, and custom software is unparalleled. Perhaps that's why visionary artists, curators, musicians, festivals and even brands are beating a path to their doorstep. Having already worked with MTV, Motorola, Prada, and Adidas, UVA recently returned to the V&A to participate in the groundbreaking Playstation Season. Volume is a massive outdoor interactive light and sound installation featuring not just UVA's work. The audio counterpart to their immersive light columns comes courtesy of Massive Attack's 3D. Here's hoping somebody brings these guys Stateside soon!
