When EMERGE goes to its mailbox every day, we never know what might be inside. Aside from the predictable bills, junkmail and regular correspondence, we occassionally get something truly enigmatic.
Today was such an occassion.
When we opened the box, we found a large yellow newsprint pamphlet reading "LOVE EVADE ENJOY THINK REJECT INVENT FREEDM"
The second page says "this is an invitation to Freedm," which is not doing much to clarify this mysterious missive. Luckily, the third page makes it clear that Freedm is an event being held at PS1, a contemporary arts museum in Long Island City, Queens.
Scheduled for Saturday, November 11, Freedm will feature performances by RJD2, J*Davey, VHS or Beta DJs, Mariano and special guests. The event also features exhibitions by filmakers and photographers including Danielle Levitt, Delaney Bishop, Samantha Marie and Matt Dilmore.
Having resolved the mystery for the most party, the last page of the pamphlet promises "Ping Pong & Polaroids & Hooper Girls & Hula Hoops & Meres & Projections & Drinking & Responsibility & Dancing & Singing & Girls and Boys & Yellow Chairs & A Photo Booth." We're not exactly sure what all that stuff is (Hooper Girls? Meres?) but having spent many a summer saturday evening at PS1 for the legendary Warm Up parties, EMERGE knows just how amazing the collision of art, music and plain old freedom can be at PS1. Here's hoping that the invite isn't the only thing big and exciting about Freedm.
There is a bit more info and a nifty video on the Freedm Myspace page.
See you there!
