EMERGE Recommends Part 3

10/11/2006 09:32:00 PM
For the third installment of EMERGE recommends, we've approached Jasmine Loignon, an excellent young graphic designer working with NY-based agency Ground Wave. Having gotten her start professionally doing design and live video mixing as part of Montreal-based duo Le Couple, Loignon has lent her creative skills to large-scale public art projects, apparel brands, Cirque Du Soleil, and has performed live at festivals including Sonar and Art Futura. She also designed the artwork for one of EMERGE's favorite CDs last year, Go Commando featuring yours truly in the mix...

We asked Jasmine to pick a few websites she checks out regularly for ideas, inspiration, and to take a barometer reading of the current state of design. A magazine fanatic and typography obsessive fluent in five languages, she's chosen a pretty interesting collection of sites, heavy on the international lifestyle magazines. But don't take our word for it, click around yourself...

Icon Magazine: A new UK publication devoted to architecture and design. Acclaimed for "Best Use of Typography" at the Magazine Design Awards

Ping Magazine: An online magazine devoted to "design and making things," this Japanese publication serves as a source of inspiration to a an international readership curious about subjecsts as varied as Japanese style illustration, t shirts, and sex toy design.

Crash Magazine: One of Paris' most innovative fashion publications, Crash has a really well executed directory-style online version that maximizes simplicity and brings the current issue to life online.

Marketing Alternatif: This is the kind of thing that makes me wish Babelfish worked better. A French-language blog focusing on nontraditional, ambient, and guerilla marketing, this is a great place to check out the lunatic fringes of advertising and explore the intersection between inventive design and marketing.
