MTV is in the midst of commemorating twenty five years on the air. You may have noticed constant rebroadcasts of the groundbreaking cable network's first hours on the always ace VH1 Classic, but the celebration doesn't end there.
No sireee. As part of the network's global self-love fest, what used to be known simply as Music Television has revisited one of the things that helped catapult the modest brand to global ubiquity: the inventiveness of their original station ids and logo variations.
Held at the Nash Room of the always on-point ICA in London, MTV has organized a one-week long exhibition of artists conceptions of the channel's giant M logo. Featuring contributions from Stussy, Pharell Williams, EMERGE-faves Hot Chip, Fat Boy Slim and many more, the pieces connect some of the most prominent creative forces in pop culture to what is arguably the largest pop cultural purveyor in the world.
Best of all, the works, which range from traditional takes to more conceptual variations, will be auctioned off with proceeds going to benefit the AIDS charity Staying Alive Foundation.
Even if MTV seems hopelessly out of touch with the cutting edge nowadays, this show goes to show that the network's legacy continues to live on (if only in Europe)...
