Adding to their already burgeoning roster of five weekly City guides and four biweekly or monthly newsletters devoted to fashion, literature, art, and electronic music and media, Flavorpill is launching Activate, a weekly news summary.
To give a sense of where Activate is coming from, there's a links list on the front page including everything from BBC to Al Jazeera and Drudge Report.
As the editors explain on the website, "Activate is driven by our need to find important connections and broaden our worldview about topics and issues we might have been aware of, but want to understand more deeply." They do so by dividing their weekly survey into categories including Top Stories, Newswire, Politics, Business, Science & Tech, This Week In Pictures, Local Stories, Nearly News, and Popular Appeal. They also present the news with a point-of-view, eschewing traditional objectivity for an analytic perspective.
It's a really smart move for Flavorpill, not only helping to elevate their brand by injecting a bit of conventional substance to their quirky and decidedly unconventional product line, but also providing some really valuable insight into current events to their media-obsessed but too-often apolitical readership of hipsters.
