The Kind of Acne that's Good to Have

Acne Jeans is probably one of Sweden's hottest exports these days. Purveyors of superbly crafted and well-tailored skinny jeans for boys and girls alike, Acne has become a full-blown institution in it's ten years.

It's 100 employees, however, are up to much more than making uber-cool denim. They have a full fashion collection for men and women, spanning footwear, accessories, denim, outerwear, sportswear and suits. In addition, they publish a bi-annual fashion magazine that is far more than the simple advertorial lesser brands fall back on when they venture into publishing.

Acne Paper, which is circulated for free in cooler neighborhoods around the globe as well as at Acne's 450 retailers worldwide may be the most visible extension of the denim brand, but it's certainly not the only one. Falling under the umbrella of the Acne Collective are a film production company, an advertising and design agency,, and a digital production company.

Through these various ventures, Acne is exploring the intersections of art and commerce, operating with the understanding that "when these two forces clash, groundbreaking ideas are created." Indeed, Acne has generated some remarkable work for the US and European markets for a diverse range of clients including Nike, Honda, Burger King, the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest Melodifestivalen, and even the Swede's governing party, Socialdemokraterna. Now that's progressive government!
