Politics and the media

Continuing on from the blog post yesterday about British and American media and their divergent takes on civic-minded activism in journalism, the latest issue of Rolling Stone, that one-time subversive rock mag that sent out roach clips to subscribers, has printed a massive piece detailing the evidence backing up claims that the 2004 election was riddled with irregularities that consistently hurt Democratic hopeful John Kerry and aided the incumbent George W Bush.

Written by Robert F Kennedy Jr, the article is a scathing indictment not just of the electoral process but of the national news media, who all but ignored the signs that major misdeeds were afoot on election day 2004.

While world class politcal journalism is nothing new from RS, the fact that they are among the most prominent voices articulating this story is a really sad statement on the state of play on the American media landscape.
