sneaker obsessing goes to a good cause

Yes yes, we know it's old hat here in the blogosphere that Also Known As and Alife have teamed up with Nike to produce a collection of seven custom colored patent leather Nike Dunks for auction on Ebay. It's also old news that the proceeds from this undoubtedly hot ticket auction will go to Free Arts NYC.

While anybody who pays attention to these sorts of things knows that the Alife connection and the strictly limited quanitity of these shoes (not to mention the colors, all of which are pigments used in extremely rare and coveted spray paint lusted after by grafitti writers) are sure to drive prices into the stratosphere, a cursory check of the actual auction reveals that with a little over one day remaining, bidding has reached the astronomical figure of $14,700!

While participating in such a charity auction is an undoubtedly noble thing to do, Emerge wonders how many of the bidders are in fact philanthropists and how many are just totally crazy sneaker lovers. We may never know...
