Corrupt your jpegs

05/04/2006 01:21:00 PM
Ireland based computer whiz Benjamin Gaulon has created an application called Corrupt which moves random sections of the binary code making a raster image file (such as a gif or jpeg) around, literally inserting file corruptiions into the code.

The results are rather fascination, with millions of distinct corruptions possible from any single image. You could even use Corrupt on each frame of a video, turning a mundane clip into a hallucinogenic romp. Certainly this techy aesthetic isn't for everyone, but if you have a fascination with the chaotic possibilities of the typically polished world of digital design, this is a pretty fascinating piece of programming.

Try it yourself by uploading a jpeg to be corrupted here
