it's an art show! It's an art book! It's a celebration of "art inspired by classic videogames of the '80s."
I Am 8 Bit is celebrating it's own publication (courtesy of Chronicle Books) with an art show and party at Los Angeles' Gallery 1988.
With artwork from over 150 artists including Dalek, MEAR ONE, Nick Catchdubs, Zen Sekizawa, and Dave Flores, the exhibition is sure to please any and all nostalgists for good old Mario, Donkey Kong, and that spinning spaceship that lasered flying space rocks in Asteroid. Rounding out the affair, the I Am 8 Bit opening party featured a performance by 8 Bit Weapon, one of the foremost artists in the burgeoning 8 bit music scene which has started entering the mainstream thanks to visionary artist like Beck and the Beastie Boys, who have championed this low-fi funkiness, both visual and musical.
