National music and movie retail giant Musicland has filed for Chapter 11 bankrupcy and announced plans to close 341 of its Sam Goody, Suncoast, and Mediaplay retails stores nationwide in a bid to remain in business. While their online ventures will remain in place and the company's most profitable locations will remain open, this essentially leaves Transworld's FYE as the only remaining national music and movie specialty shop in the United States.
