Yes it's a couple days old but echoing the sentiments of the NY TImes' Kelefa Sanneh, who hailed breakout UK rock act Arctic Monkeys as the "voice of their generation" in Sunday's Arts section, UK paper of record the Guardian ran with a fascinating analysis of the changing ethnic makeup of the UK pop music charts, which are currently awash in "indie boys and their guitars."

The author, a black Manchester native raised by white parents points to a failure of the predominantly white record industry establishment to try and understand England's extensive black music underground, quoting quasi-successful black artist Estelle as saying: "Kids are doing music on estates, on the street, in their bedrooms, but they are not being taken seriously... There is not enough faith in black music at a high level. Record company executives, labels and artists are not taking the time to go and see what kids are producing. They don't go to the estates, they don't have that much of a clue."
